He …, I … (2022)

“He …, I …” is a series of short films exploring the passive words associated with women’s genitals in a sexual context, as compared to the active ones associated with men’s. Western culture has long emphasised that women should “lie back and take it” – that they should objectify themselves under patriarchal society’s microscopic examinations of their bodies and submit to use of them as pleasure toys for men. This work examines my internalisation of the vernacular and how this became absorbed into my self-identity, expanding beyond sexual expression into other spheres of self.
