Hi Daddy

(or “If you say the words you don’t have to go back”) (2022)

“Hi Daddy” or (“If you say the words you don’t need to go back”) is a short film meditating on the centring of objects in traumatic memory. Often, particularly meaningful or distressing recollections feature acute detail about a particular object or place which seems to anchor the memory but also reaches out tendrils to laterally related memories or thoughts. This work is an exploration of an anchor personal to me and the memory linked to it.

“Hi Daddy” won the Fine Art category of the Batsford Prize in June 2022.
